Subhasish
Goswami

Product leader for lending, fintech and applied AI. I spent seven years building a lending platform, from employee #20 in India to product head: credit rules that decide in seconds, pricing that lifts approvals without degrading the book, and GenAI that knows when to hand a borrower to a human.

01 / CREDIT DECISIONING

From a 48-hour queue to a sub-10-second decision

Context / decision

Loan decisions ran through a manual underwriting queue. I led the move to an automated decisioning platform built on configurable primitives: eligibility rules, pricing tiers, partner routing, and rollback, each implemented through configuration.

Verified outcome

Result: decisions in under 10 seconds, 3x throughput with no added headcount. I rebuilt the core mechanics as a public demo: Decision Studio ↗.

Scope: product owner for the decisioning platform, requirements and config logic; execution by MPOWER's in-house engineering team.

Each step runs on configurable rules: eligibility, risk tiers and pricing change through configuration, without a code deploy.
02 / AI PRODUCT

An AI support assistant that contained 98% of conversations

Context / decision

I owned product strategy and requirements for Mira, a hybrid AI borrower-support assistant: guided flows and approved answers first, live account lookups through APIs, and a RAG-based LLM fallback that answers only from approved sources. I owned prompt design, grounding and guardrail rules, the knowledge base, the evaluation model (accuracy, completeness, relevance, bias), and pre-launch red teaming, which caught the assistant inventing an executive's name and set the rule to answer only from approved sources.

Verified outcome

Result: 35,277 users served through September 2025, with 98% containment (conversations that ended without a human handoff).

Scope: product strategy, grounding and guardrail requirements, knowledge base ownership, and evaluation metrics; engineering build owned by MPOWER's AI engineering team.

  1. Borrower question
  2. Guided flow or live account lookup
  3. RAG answer from approved sources
  4. Abstain and hand off to a human
Structured flows and approved answers come first; the LLM answers only from approved sources, and anything it cannot ground goes to a person. 98% of conversations ended without a human handoff.
03 / CREDIT DATA STRATEGY

Cut bureau spend while extending coverage to 190+ countries

Context / decision

Analyzed $1.41M in annual credit bureau spend, found that 40% of pulls happened before applicants had completed their documents, and won sign-off from 10 functions for a documents-first flow. In parallel, defined a customer credit-upload product to extend credit data coverage from 18 to 190+ countries, now in implementation.

Verified outcome

Result: a documents-first credit strategy worth $275K a year, part of about $350K a year in planned data and vendor savings.

Scope: led the bureau spend analysis and sign-off process; partnered with risk, compliance, and data engineering on the coverage expansion.

04 / CONVERSION

Rebuilding the application flow

Context / decision

Redesigned the loan application flow around progressive disclosure and smarter defaults, with instrumentation at every step.

Verified outcome

Result: drop-off cut from 16% to 4%, completion up from 70% to 92%.

Scope: owned the redesign, from instrumentation and experiment design to the shipped flow.

03 / ABOUT

About me

Engineer by training, consultant by apprenticeship, product leader by choice.

I joined MPOWER Financing in December 2019 as employee #20 in India, before there was an in-house engineering team, and built the product and decisioning platform from the ground up. Four promotions later I was Senior Manager, Product, and product head for International Student Lending and US Domestic Lending, with 5 PODs and 5 Product Managers reporting to me directly.

Before product, I spent about seven years on the other side of the table: business analysis and consulting for insurers and banks at Wipro and Cognizant, then product ownership at TietoEVRY. It is why I write requirements engineers can build from, and chase numbers a finance team can audit.

MBA in Finance and Business Analytics from Great Lakes Institute of Management. AI Product Leadership (September 2026) and AI Product Management (November 2025) certifications from Product Faculty. Evenings I build with AI; Decision Studio and CareerOS on this page started as weekend prototypes.

Building a lending platform, then leading it

Four promotions later I was Senior Manager, Product, and product head for International Student Lending and US Domestic Lending, with 5 PODs and 5 Product Managers reporting to me. 1. Education

    Engineering the fundamentals

Four years of control systems, sensors and signals. It is where I learned to think in inputs, rules and feedback loops, which is still how I look at a credit decision.

    • B.Tech
    • Electronics and Instrumentation
  2. Work

Learning how insurance software really runs

My first job put me inside claims-processing and policy-administration platforms for a major US property and casualty insurer. I worked production defects against SLAs, wrote requirements for a Siebel CRM upgrade, and learned how expensive a small requirements gap becomes once it reaches production.

  3. Education

    Adding the business lens

A full-time year for an MBA in Finance and Business Analytics. It gave me the finance vocabulary I later used in every planning review, and the habit of sizing a problem before building for it.

    • Business analytics
  4. Work

Shaping solutions from the client side

I worked the front end of deals for insurance, banking and financial-services clients: RFP responses, proofs of concept and capability assessments. That work won $0.42M in new billing and four client engagements, and I built the business-rules inventory behind a top-tier insurer's policy and underwriting changes.

    • 4 client engagements
    • Insurance and banking
  5. Work

    Becoming a product owner

My first product role, on B2B asset-management software for a global commercial-real-estate client. I found a manual email-approval process costing the client days per request, made the case to automate it, and turned the proof of concept into a funded workstream that grew the delivery team by three.

Managed Subhasish directly
Pari LennartzChief Technology Officer, MPOWER FinancingSeptember 17, 2026

I worked with Subhasish for almost seven years at MPOWER, and he became one of the people I relied on most. He grew tremendously during that time, earning multiple promotions and eventually leading Product for our core international student lending business. Subhasish is extremely reliable, thorough and structured, with a strong sense of ownership. He was always open about issues and blockers, which I really appreciated. No matter how stressful things got, he stayed level-headed, brought a calm presence to the team and focused on solving the problem. As a product leader, he is very data-oriented and thoughtful in how he makes decisions. He can go deep into the details while also stepping back and looking at the broader product and customer experience. He worked very well across Product, Engineering and Operations, managed third-party partners effectively, and was particularly good at removing internal blockers and getting different teams moving in the same direction. Most importantly, Subhasish always delivered. He believed in our mission and product, cared about his team and the people around him, and was someone I knew I could count on. After almost seven years working together, I would work with him again anytime.

What he does best is take the ambiguous, tangled problems nobody has framed yet and turn them into products teams can execute with clarity and confidence.

CEO and co-founder

I still remember meeting Subhasish at our WeWork office six and a half years ago and being immediately impressed — a first impression he then proceeded to validate five promotions in a row, from entry-level Product Owner to Head of Product. What he does best is take the ambiguous, tangled problems nobody has framed yet and turn them into products teams can execute with clarity and confidence. He helped build and scale both our Business Analysis and Product functions while MPOWER grew from roughly $35M to $350M in annual originations, bringing configurability, automation, and a steadily better customer experience to the lending platform along the way. Few people grow with a company that completely; Subhasish did, and any company would be fortunate to have him leading product.

He takes true product ownership, he knows the product inside and out, and is constantly finding ways to improve it.

I've had the absolute pleasure of working alongside Subhasish for nearly 7 years, watching him excel and grow into an incredible Senior Product Manager. We've tackled numerous technology and product rollouts together, and through it all, he has consistently been the absolute go-to person in the company for bridging the gap between engineering, business, and product teams. Subhasish is incredibly level-headed and has an unmatched knack for cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management. When it comes to building out requirements, he always asks the exact right, detailed questions. He takes true product ownership, he knows the product inside and out, and is constantly finding ways to improve it. Whenever we hit a roadblock, his calm, structured problem-solving approach makes troubleshooting a breeze. He is fantastic with follow-up and keeps everyone aligned, always keeping his eye on driving business outcomes and pushing our company goals forward. Subhasish is a massive asset to any team he's on, and I really can't recommend him highly enough!

…very articulate with his requirements gathering, always stepped up to take ownership of tasks and followed through to the end.
